With just days to go before the capital’s signature running event, the Nairobi City Marathon 2025, final preparations are in top gear. Race pack and bib collection officially begins this Thursday, July 3, and runs through to Saturday, July 5, at Uhuru Park, the designated start and finish point for all race categories.
Participants across the 21km, 10km, 42km, and 4km races are expected to collect their race kits between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm. As Uhuru Park comes alive with colorful tents, friendly volunteers, and a sea of eager runners, Nairobi reaffirms its position as Africa’s heartbeat of road racing.
Although the 21km Half Marathon and 10km Expressway Run are now officially sold out, there’s still a final chance to join the action. Slots remain open for the 42km Full Marathon—the flagship race—and the 4km Fun Run, perfect for families and fitness beginners.
“Don’t worry, you can still be part of the action,” said the marathon organizers in a public advisory. “Register now for the 42KM full marathon or the 4KM fun run. Run the Expressway. Make history.”
The race’s unique appeal continues to resonate with fans and runners alike. With the event now in its third edition, many have praised the marathon for bringing prestige and excitement to the city’s running culture.
“I missed out last year, but this time I signed up early for the 10km,” said Mary Wanjiru, a recreational runner from South B. “It’s not just a race, it’s an experience. Running on the Expressway feels like owning the city!”
Another fan, Daniel Kiptoo from Ngong, added:
“The marathon has given Nairobi a new rhythm. Whether you're running or cheering from the sidelines, you feel like part of something bigger.”
Meanwhile, elite athletes are reminded that Saturday, July 5, is the exclusive day for their bib and race pack collection. According to Athletics Kenya, only athletes registered with the federation will be issued numbers.
“Issuance of the pack and running number for elite athletes will only be conducted on Saturday,” reads an official statement from AK. “Please ensure you provide identification and registration confirmation. No on-site registration will be done.”
From the sweeping lanes of the Expressway to the symbolic heart of Uhuru Park, the Nairobi City Marathon is once again poised to make a bold statement about Kenya’s dominance in distance running and city-based sporting innovation.
Whether you're chasing a personal best, running for a cause, or soaking in the atmosphere, this is your moment.
“We’re proud to host a marathon that reflects the spirit of Nairobi—dynamic, united, and always moving forward,” said Barnaba Korir, the marathon’s race director.
Athletes are urged to collect their race packs early, confirm their details, and prepare for a thrilling Sunday, July 6.
